Bed 1
Bed 1 is located on the far left of the raised beds. It was the first one built and the one garden that possibly needs the most work done with its soil. During the summer months of 08/09 it grew plants from the Solanaceae family – tomatoes, capsicums and eggplants. At the current moment May/ June 09 the plants are starting to loose vigour with the cool nights and soon the first frosts will pass through. Once the frosts have arrived the garden will be cleared and the soil will have ‘goodness’ added to it.
:: Currently Growing : :
- Capsicum California Wonder
- Tomatoes – Roma
- Purple Opal Basil
- Black Beauty Eggplant
In spring this garden will become the Cucurbit bed. Containing cucumbers and zucchinis. Corn can also be grown in this bed, however it is such a thristy crop and our summer rainfall can be rather sporadic so I will not be attempting to grow corn in these beds in summer 09.
The soil preparation for this bed will be nothing spectacular, compost, manures and green manure crop.
